John Cooper

Non-Executive Director & Business Psychologist 

With more than 30 years experience in business/IO psychology, John set up the first centre of excellence for psychometric assessment in the UK as well as holding several professional roles including honorary recruitment officer for the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a former lecturer at Bristol University. Previously Senior VP and now advisor to Talogy (formerly PSI), John helped global brands such as Starbucks, the NHS and the BBC develop leaders and emotional intelligence within their organisations to improve business performance and employee productivity.

John is a leading expert and speaker on the topic of applying Emotional Intelligence for leadership and business success and has worked with clients all over the world. He is a chartered psychologist, experienced businessman and entrepreneur, and continues to sit as Director, Non Exec Chairman and Advisor to a number of other businesses.

John has consulted across sectors with a wide variety of global organisations including Shell International Ltd, Johnson and Johnson, Virgin Media, ADTC, Barclays, British Gas, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, CIPS, Foreign Office, Statpro, Alterian, Vertex, Messier Services, Centrica, KPMG, Deloitte, Capita Group, Vector Aerospace, Gillette, NPower, British Nuclear Group, Environment Agency. He has worked with numerous board directors at top 30 FTSE companies and Fast 50 organisations and his professional expertise spans leadership development, top team engagement programmes and assessment. He coaches and transforms the effectiveness of a broad range of CEOs, Directors and Senior Leaders by focusing on their deeper levels of attitudes and emotions.

John uses his expertise to help Director level teams to dismantle the blocks that hamper their effectiveness. His skills enable teams to develop relationships based on accountability and open communication. His particular interests focus around personal and management development, coaching and interpersonal conflict and John is well known for his challenging yet sensitive coaching style.
